Riosa

Riosa is a Spanish municipality ( concejo in Asturias, corresponds to the municipio in the rest of Spain) in the autonomous region of Asturias. It is bordered to the north by Morcín, to the south by Lena and Quiros, on the east by Mieres. The main town and seat of the municipality is La Vega.

History

Ancient to modern times

Many finds from the Bronze Age show the early settlement and the economic success of the community. The abundance of copper and the lush pastures of the mountain slopes and valleys have meant that the region was already very early, but they last longer inhabited. A first record of the village dates from the year 857 from a will, which, however, turned out to be fake. In fact, a deed of gift was confirmed from 1075, which certifies the parish of Santa María de Riosa to the Archdiocese of Oviedo.

Modern Times
