Ripley County (Indiana)

Ripley County is a county located in the state of Indiana in the United States. Administrative office ( County Seat) is Versailles.

Geography

The County is located almost in the extreme southeast of Indiana, about 35 miles from Ohio and Kentucky is removed and has an area of 1160 square kilometers, of which four square kilometers of water surface. It is bordered clockwise to the following counties: Franklin County, Dearborn County, Ohio County, Switzerland County, Jefferson County, Jennings County and Decatur County.

History

Ripley County was formed on December 27, 1816 from parts of Dearborn County and Jefferson County. It was named for Eleazer Wheelock Ripley, a hero in the British -American War.
