Riposto

Riposto is a city in the Province of Catania in the Italian region Sicily, with 14,192 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012).

Location and data

Riposto is located 32 km north of Catania on the seafront. The inhabitants mainly work in agriculture and tourism.

The neighboring municipalities are Acireale, Giarre and Mascali.

History

Originally Riposto Giarre and districts of the town of Mascali. 1915, the municipalities and Riposto Giarre were self-employed, were reunited in 1945 and finally to independent communities.

Attractions

The Cathedral of San Pietro was built in neoclassical style. The town hall was built in 1928.
