Rîşcani ( German: Ryschkanowka, also Rascani; Moldovan Cyrillic: Рышкань; Russian: Рышканы ) is a city in Moldova and the capital of Rajon Rîşcani. It lies on the River Copăceanca and is about 22 kilometers away from the railway station Drochia. Two communities are co-managed by the city: Balanul Nou and Ramazan.

History

Prior to its relocation in 1940 lived in Bessarabia place many German families who named the village Ryschkanowka.

In Soviet times, there were many factories in Rîşcani, a state agricultural technical school and tobacco. 1973, the population was 12,000 inhabitants.

The parents of the later German Federal President Horst Köhler are from surrounding areas of Rîşcani.
