Formation

Initial work on the album began in 2004. Already in September 2004, Holland said that there would be some new songs that sound pretty good. He also announced that the new album should come out in 2005. In June and August 2005, the work was interrupted, however, to make predictions on the Vans Warped Tour. Coinciding with this tour, Sony BMG released on 27 June 2005 a best-of album. After the tour, the work was resumed on the album. In September 2006, Bob Rock was announced as a producer. On 16 November 2006, the band announced on their website that the recordings have started in the studio.

In July 2007, confirmed the rumors that Adam Willard is leaving the band to concentrate on his work with Angels & Airwaves. As a new drummer Pete Parada was presented for the recording of the album, however, Josh Freese was obtained, which was in 2003, drummer for The Offspring.

On 9 April 2008 it was announced on the band's website that the recordings had been completed for the new album. The album itself was released on 11 June 2008 in Japan, where it was fitted with a bonus track. On 13 June 2008, the album in Germany, Austria and Switzerland appeared on 16 June 2008 in the UK and June 17 in the USA.

Reception

Critics of the album got mixed reviews.

Mathias Möller awards on laut.de 3 of 5 stars and praised especially the first half of the album. However, the album was even moderately interesting.

Albert Ranner awards on cdstarts.de 5 of 10 points and referred to the album as unconvincing. He sees in A Lot Like Me, Stuff Is Messed Up and Let's Hear It For Rock Bottom some positive slip.

Paul Kraker awards on now- on.at 4 of 5 stars and says that thanks to punk riffs and the singing of Dexter Holland more colors slumber as the eternal punk rock gray.
