Rishton ceramics

Rishton (Cyrillic Риштон; Russian Риштан Rishtan ) is a city in the Uzbek province Fargona, located in the Fergana Valley, 40 km west of the city Fargona on the border with Kyrgyzstan to about 480 m above sea level. According to the population census in 1989 Rishton then had 23,700 inhabitants, a calculation for 2009 are that there is the population of 31 881. Rishton is the capital of the eponymous district Rishton.

Nationally known Rishton is because of its ceramic - about 90 % of the pottery offered in Uzbekistan is made by the potters about 1000 in Rishton.

Pottery is operated in Rishton for at least 800 years, its origins have not been conclusively investigated. In the Rishtoner ceramic only locally available raw materials are used such as red clay from a point near Rishton clay pit or white clay from Angren or Osh. One characteristic of Rishtoner ceramics are in blue and turquoise color painted ornaments and patterns.
