Rita Moreno

Rita Moreno; actually Rosita Dolores Alverio ( born December 11, 1931 in Humacao, Puerto Rico), is an actress who has enjoyed success both on Broadway and in Hollywood and one of the few who won an Oscar, Grammy, Emmy and Tony Award.

Life

At the age of five years, Moreno moved with her mother to New York City. At eleven she dubbed American films into Spanish. At 13 she already had her first Broadway role with which she drew the attention of talent scouts from Hollywood itself. In the next ten years she starred in several films.

Transferred a smaller role to her in 1951 in Singin 'in the Rain, one of the most successful musicals of all time. In 1961 she played Anita in the musical film West Side Story. She became the first actress of Hispanic origin an Oscar for best supporting actor and was known all over the world.

On June 18, 1965 she married Lenny Gordon, who was her husband and manager until his death in 2010. You have a daughter.

Honors

2004 gave U.S. President George W. Bush Moreno Medal of Freedom ("The Presidential Medal of Freedom" ), the highest civilian award in the United States. In 2009, she was honored by the U.S. President Barack Obama with the National Medal of Arts in 2009.

2013 she was awarded the Screen Actors Guild Life Achievement Award awarded for lifetime achievement.
