Rive-de-Gier

Rive- de-Gier (pronounced duh rihw schjeh ) is a French town in the arrondissement of Saint -Etienne in the Loire department in the Rhône -Alpes. It lies on the River greed and on the railroad Saint -Etienne - Lyon. Rive- de-Gier has 14,709 inhabitants ( 1 January 2011); so is the population sunk to the level at the end of the 19th century about. Economically, Rive- de-Gier dominated by coal mining, ironworks and glassworks.

The greed is largely covered in the urban area, so that the flow in the city center can not be seen. As the river is not navigable, was built to transport the coal from the canal givors, but which is now filled.

The community lies on the edge of the Regional Park of Pilat and is associated with this.
