The River Bend nuclear power station is a nuclear power plant with a boiling water reactor, which was built by General Electric. It is located in St. Francisville, Louisiana on the east bank of the Mississippi River.

History

The construction of the nuclear power plant was started in 1977 and in 1986 took it upon commercial operation. It is part of the utility Entergy.

In 2000, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission approved a power increase by 5% in 2003, an increase by a further 1.7 %.

The approval granted operating license expires in 2025, an application to renew the operating license by 20 years was announced by the operator and is expected for 2011.

Entergy plans at the site under the Nuclear Power 2010 program, a license for an Economic Simplified Boiling Water Reactor ( ESBWR ) to apply for, this is an advanced boiling water reactor from General Electric.
