River Calder (Wyre)

The River Calder in its upper reaches

Template: Infobox River / Obsolete

The River Calder is a river in Lancashire, England. The River Calder rises on the Fiendsdale Head in the Forest of Bowland and initially flows in a westerly direction. At the village Oakenclough it changes its direction to the south. East of the village of Catterall, the river turns again to the west and then crosses the M6 motorway and the Lancaster Canal. The river flows to the north of Catterall and flows to the northwest of the town in the Wyre.

Water from the River Calder allowed until 1891 the operation of printing and leather industries in Catterall, but then went to the local water utility - the Fylde Water Company - by a decision of the Parliament 's permission to remove large amounts of water in the upper reaches of the river for drinking water supply and so no longer was enough water for the operation of the machines available.
