River Cam

Mouth of the Cam ( left) in the Great Ouse

Cam in Cambridge

The cam is a river in England, which flows south of the city of Ely in the Great Ouse and is therefore connected to the English Channel network.

Name

The former name of the river was Granta, according to the Anglo Saxon town Grantebrycge, now Cambridge. After renaming the city and the river was given a new name that matched the name of the city. One of the two tributaries of the Cam still wears the name Granta.
