River Devon, Clackmannanshire

Outflow of the Devonian from the Upper Glendevon Reservoir

The Devon is a river in the Scottish Unitary Authority Clackmannanshire. It rises in 548 m altitude in the Ochil Hills on the slopes of Blairdenon Hill north of Alva.

In his first three kilometers of the Devon flows mainly in a northerly direction, but then turns to the east. After a few kilometers he is in the Upper and Lower Glendevon reservoirs dammed twice. At about mile 16, the flow direction changes gradually to the south and flows through Glen Devon Devon valley. Here he is dammed for a third time in the Castle Hill Reservoir and finally reaches east of Yetts of Muckhart the plane of the Forth. He turns abruptly to the west and runs south to the Hill Foot's Villages to Menstrie, where it veers to the south, and after two kilometers and a total of 54 km near the Cambus distillery in Tullibody in the Forth flows.

In January 2008, Devon appeared significantly after heavy rainfall over the banks and put the Foots Hill Villages under water. The cause inadequate drainage facilities were called. Measures to prevent further flooding are discussed.
