River island

A river island is an island in a stream ( river, stream, etc.). Together with the island of the lake, it is one of the group of inland islands.

Geology

River islands exist - unlike the nearby islands in a sea - mainly from alluvial deposits or sediment, sand or gravel. In part, it is completely severed by flooding from the river bank land. Because of the constant flow of river islands are often narrow and elongated. Their shape and area may change more frequently than in other islands; this is especially true after heavy rain or flooding.
