The River Rother (former name Limen ) is 56 kilometers is one of the longest rivers of East Sussex, England. The river rises about 1 km south of Rotherfield (East Sussex ) near the Rother Hurst Farm and flows behind Rye on the English coast in the English Channel. Its tributaries hot Tillingham and Brede.
The river section below Bodiam Castle is navigable; north is the former, now forming a hill in the flat landscape island Oxney, and near Rye meets the River to the east lying in Romney Marsh.
The river flows through or passes through the villages of Etchingham, Robertsbridge, Bodiam, Northiam and Wittersham.
The river has a namesake in West Sussex: the Rother, a tributary of the Arun. He has a namesake in South Yorkshire: the Rother, a tributary of the Don, which give his name to the town of Rotherham.
