Riwoche Monastery

The Riwoche Monastery (Tib. ri bo che ) in the same large community Riwoqe ( Riboche ) of the same circle of the Tibetan government district Qamdo ( Chamdo ) is located in north-eastern Tibet on the upper reaches of the Mekong ( Lancang Jiang). It is an important monastery of the Taglung Kagyu school of the Kagyu school of Tibetan Buddhism tradition and one of the most important monasteries in the region of Kham.

The monastery was founded in the time of the Mongol rule of Sanggye Ön (1250-1296) founded in 1277 with the support Chögyel Phagpas. His buildings are from the times of the Yuan to Qing Dynasty. 1326 now listed Chagyima Great Hall under head Ugyen Gönpo (u rgyan mgon po) was built, which became the symbol of Taglung Kagyu school.

In 1731 ( the 9th year of Yongzheng era of the Qing Shizong ) appointed the Manchu government here a large living Buddha of the Kagyu school to Kuutuktu, who was one of the four major Kuutuktus of the Qing Dynasty in Chamdo.

There are three reincarnation systems:

  • Jedrung Rinpoche ( rje rin po che drung ); Chinese Jizhong huofo吉 仲 活佛
  • Phagchog Rinpoche ( ' rin po che phags mchog ); Chinese Paqu huofo帕 曲 活佛
  • Shabdrung Rinpoche ( rin po che zhabs drung ); Chinese Xiazhong huofo夏 仲 活佛
