Riyoko Ikeda

Riyoko Ikeda (Japanese池田 理 代 子, Ikeda Riyoko; born December 18, 1947 in Osaka ) is a Japanese manga artist.

Her debut as a professional manga artist she made in 1967 with Bara - Yashiki no shōjo. She also studied philosophy. Ikeda joined as a student at a Communist Youth League and became involved in the anti- nuclear movement.

In 1972, she began working on The Rose of Versailles, in which they dealt with the French Revolution. The manga was completed in 1973 after more than 1,800 pages and, later converted to a huge success in Japan as anime and as a musical and marketed internationally. The ten anthologies of the manga series sold in Japan about fifteen million times.

The early 1980s, she moved to the Josei genre, but could not connect to their success in the 1970s. Since 1998 she works at her manga titles primarily as a scriptwriter, her former assistant Erika Miyamoto (宮本 えりか, Miyamoto Erika ) acts as a draftsman.
