RK Bjelovar

RK Bjelovar is a Croatian handball club from Bjelovar. The first team plays in the Croatian league. The club also played under the name Partizan Bjelovar.

History

From two in the early 1950s, founded clubs, Slavs and a school team, was raised in 1955, the club Partizan Bjelovar.1957 the club for the first time rose to the first Yugoslav League and was once in the first season champion. This marked the beginning of a great era; the association was to 1980 eight more times champion.

On the European stage successes could be achieved: failed Partizan Bjelovar 1958 at the first attempt in a continental competition even in the first round to Dinamo Bucharest, three years later he moved into the final, which he lost to Frisch Auf Göppingen. Partizan was the first club from Yugoslavia, who was then allowed to deny a final outside the country at this event. As a result, Partizan participated regularly in the European competitions. In the EHF Champions League Final 1972 in the Westfalenhalle in Dortmund you hit the big favorites VfL Gummersbach at 19:14. A year later, failed again in the final An Mai Moscow.

With the penultimate place in the 1979/80 season Partizan Bjelovar increased after 22 years from from the House of Lords and could not build on the successes of previous years long.

After the civil war in Croatia in 1991, the club was renamed RK Bjelovar. More sixteen years playing handball club from Bjelovar in the lower regions of the Croatian league before the season 2007/08, promotion to the first division.
