RK Koper

RK Koper is a Slovenian handball club from Koper. RK Koper plays in the Slovenian first league. In 2011, the men's team won for the first time in club history, the Slovenian championship. The home ground is the sports hall Bonifika.

History

The handball section was established for the season 1950/51. A certain period of time, there were two active handball clubs in Koper: iplas RK and RK Koper. The best result of the first year was an eighth place in the season 1966 /67. The club had to be rescued financially many times, but there was also repeated dissolution of the handball department, most recently after the 1991 / 92nd After just a few handball enthusiasts playing in the team under then- coach Igor Poklar. Later they collaborated with an elementary school to encourage young talent. In the season 1999/2000 Won the club against Crimea, Krško and Ptuj, the qualification for the first B- League, which is the second German handball league. Since 2000, the company Cimos is a sponsor of the club. This contributed to the rapid economic strengthening of the association. Within just two years, RK Cimos Koper member of the Slovenian handball elite, the first A- League. The club has since become a major sporting and social support in the region and has also made it known throughout Europe the Slovenian handball. For the first time in the international business of the club was for the season 2004/2005. There you eliminated in the third round against Dunaferr SE in the EHF Cup. That was until then the best result in international business. In the same season it was in the Second League, which authorized the following year to participate in the EHF Champions League. And they won for the first time the Slovenian Cup. In the 2008/2009 season one was again second in the league and they managed for the second year in a row to win the Slovenian Cup. For the first time the Slovenian Supercup was held and won by RK Koper. In the Champions League 2008 /09 is different from the last one in Group E against Medwedi Chekhov, SDC San Antonio and Steaua Bucharest. The U-18 team won the championship. The EHF Challenge Cup was the international competition, in which the club 2009/2010 participated. There is difference in the 4th round against the Spanish club BM Granollers. The 2010/2011 season represents the most successful season was one for the first time Slovenian champion, celebrated for the third time to win the Slovenian Cup and was the EHF Challenge Cup 2010/11 win.
