RK Poreč

RK Porec is a handball club from the Croatian town of Porec. The first team plays in the Croatian league.

History

Handball was played in 1949 for the first time in Istria, on a soccer field at the former silos, where students from Zagreb met with a selection of footballers from NK Jadran during the holidays to a duel. Even then stood Lujo Györy for the locals in the gate, which later became Yugoslavia's national goalie.

So 52 field handball was played on the football field since 1951 /. However, this disappeared quite quickly with the introduction of the small field handball as he is known today.

1953 started with the Handball Training, 1954 was officially played for the first time; this year thus regarded as the founding year. As part of the " DTO " (an organization in the city that had all kinds of sports among themselves, which also meant that they participated as players in several sports), it was assumed a common part Istrian League from 1955. In this league, all other sports were represented except handball. So it was also that some players took part in several disciplines in the league.

In addition to Mr. Handball and the women's handball was introduced at the same time, this has been particularly successful between the 1970s and 1990s.

The men played in the regional league of Istria and often fought for the climb. In 1963, the men's and women's team got out of the total sports club DTO and founded in 1968 the independent handball club RK Porec.

After ups and downs of the club was founded in 1987 in the Istrian master league and entered on the PIR - League; However, the end of the season broke the financial base away. Therefore, the men's team pulled back completely from the competition. The ladies three years later fared well. Only the youth development remained until 1995.

After a continuous increase were abolished in 2003/ 04 for the first time the rise in the second Croatian league. Since the 2007/ 08 season the team playing in the first Croatian league.
