Citizen Kane - The Hollywood Legend (Original Title: RKO 281) from 1999 is a biographical TV drama about the making of the classic film Citizen Kane of the American director Orson Welles.

Produced by HBO TV movie shows the struggle of the young Orson Welles ( writer ), RKO studio head George Schaefer ( Scheider) and screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz ( Malkovich ) on the set of the greatest American film of all time, Citizen Kane. The Anglo-American original title is the production number of Citizen Kane.

Action

As a famous young genius, a sensational career starting with his fictional documentary " War of the Worlds ' celebrated in New York, Orson Welles is brought to the subject for his first film. At a dinner party at Hearst Castle he has a verbal dispute with Hearst, Welles decides to make a movie about Hearst. It takes some time to convince co- writer Herman Mankiewicz and the studio, but Welles eventually gets the script and the green light, the movie theme is a closely guarded secret from the press.

When the rough cut is completed, gets tycoon William Hearst ( Cromwell ) Wind from the production and noticed that this movie is a really little veiled and extraordinarily unvarnished description of his life. Hearst starts a malicious campaign, in which he uses his power and influence to prevent not only the performance of the film, but also completely and permanently destroy it.

Criticism

The lexicon of the International film ruled that the production was a " fascinating biopic. " This film offers a " completely committed [ s ] insight into the mechanisms of the film industry, the [ ... ] not on clichés ." There succeed " but [ ... ] to outline the size of a genius. "
