Road skating

One Night Skate or Blade Night is a leisure and sporting event for inline skaters, which takes place in many major cities under changing designation. It is several times usually wear during the summer months. The participants go on officially cordoned off by the police due to a longer path or a circular course.

The conditions for participation in a Skatenight vary from place to place. In many cities, a protective equipment (eg, helmet ) are mandatory. The target group is often different. Thus, some organizers are addressed only to advanced skaters, others and beginners alike. This not only has different effects on the distance and terrain, the length, but also a strongly differing number of participants result. How to find the runs in some cities with just a few hundred, in others with thousands of participants. Skate Nights are carried out by either the municipalities or sports clubs. Increasingly the deals also by private operators. This - as well as other organizers - require low participation fees in some cases.

Although the name " Skate Night" event in the evenings or at at least partial darkness suggests, this is not the case everywhere. In some cities, the trip is planned so that it is already finished before dark.

The Dresden Nachtskaten launched on 8 May 1998 as the first Skatenight Germany and is carried out to date every Friday from April to September. With currently about 6,100 skaters per night the Munich Blade Night is Germany's largest Skate Night.

History & Legal in Germany

The original purpose of many events was the late 1990s, a demonstration. The skaters were fighting for their right as an independent road users. Since April 2009, but sets the Highway Code states that skaters have to be considered as pedestrians. Meanwhile Skate Nights are usually as a sports event. In addition, there are still some events where groups of skaters are unofficial road, for example in Dusseldorf, Mainz and Berlin.

In Kreuzlingen was also run from 2005-2009. In 2010, however, no Monday Night Skate took place due to lack of sponsors. In Biel no more Night Skate took place since 2008 years.
