Roana

The community Roana ( Cimbrian: Robaan or Rowaan ) is a scattered settlement with 4320 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) on the plateau of Asiago in the province of Vicenza in North Italy. It belongs to the German-speaking island "Seven Churches".

The linguistic island

Even in 2010 there are in the middle fraction Balle German language ( Cimbric ) inhabitants. In Cimbric dialect is called the community Robaan or Rowaan. The fractions have next to the Italian and German names: Camporovere ( Cimbrian Kamparübe ) Canove (roan ), Cesuna (Ka - Sune ), Mezzaselva (center Bald / Toballe ) Roana ( Robaan ) and Treschè Conca. Although Roana is the capital of the municipality, the municipality seat is located in the fraction Canove.

History

During World War I the front between Austria and Italy was very close. After this time, the population of the capital went from before 8000 almost to the beginning of the 80's constantly back.

Culture

In recent years, interest in the Cimbrian - German tradition has shown concrete results. Since 2006 there is the " Hoga Zait " ( High Time), a festival dedicated to the Cimbri culture. In 2007, we opened an office that deals with the Cimbri language and culture.

Attractions

The high stone bridge of Roana ( ponte di Roana ) was built around 1906 with great technical difficulties, destroyed in World War II and then rebuilt. The small artificial lake in the village of Spilleck attracts bathers, since it has been removed for bathing.
