Roasted barley tea

Mugicha (Japanese麦 茶) is a Japanese drink.

Mugicha is prepared from roasted, peeled barley. For this purpose, the barley, similar to a tea brewed with hot water.

The resulting beverage can be enjoyed hot or cold. It has a light brown color and a slightly sweet, tangy flavor, with a strong barley taste in the finish. Especially in the summer Mugicha is often drunk with ice.

Mugicha is very popular in Japan and Korea. In Korea, the drink is called Boricha ( Kor. 보리차 ) and is often combined with Oksusucha (a type of tea made from roasted corn ). For ease of preparation Mugicha tea bags are produced that allow for preparation of hot or cold water.
