Robert Bolt

Robert Oxton Bolt ( born August 15, 1924 in Sale ( Greater Manchester ), † February 20, 1995 in Petersfield ( Hampshire) ) was an English playwright and screenwriter.

Life

Bolt attended Manchester Grammar School and then studied history and English at the University of Manchester. About his private life little is known.

He wrote screenplays for popular films such as Doctor Zhivago and Lawrence of Arabia. For Doctor Zhivago Bolt was awarded an Oscar.

Bolts stage play for children The little thick Knight (The Thwarting of Baron Bolligrew ) was produced by the Augsburg Puppet Theatre as puppet piece and first broadcast in late 1963 in six episodes from the Hessischer Rundfunk.

From 1967 to 1975, from 1988 until his death in 1995, Bolt was married to British actress Sarah Miles.
