Robert Brooke (Virginia)

Robert Brooke (* 1760, † February 27, 1800 in Spotsylvania County) was a politician and Virginia Mason. He was governor of Virginia from 1794 to 1796 and Plenipotentiary General of Virginia from 1796 until 1800.

Brooke was probably born in Spotsylvania County in 1760. He traveled to Scotland and studied medicine at Edinburgh University. When the American Revolutionary War broke out, he was stranded for a short time in the UK. In 1780, Brooke returned to Virginia.

He was a Mason and Old Chair Master of Fredericksburg Lodge No.. 4 and was on November 23, 1795 Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Virginia.

He died on February 27, 1800 in Fredericksburg, Virginia.
