Robert C. Jones
Robert Clifford Jones ( born March 30, 1936 in Los Angeles, California) is an American editor and writer, who along with Nancy Dowd and Waldo Salt was awarded the Oscar for Best Original Screenplay at the Academy Awards in 1979.
Biography
Jones began in the 1960s as an editor in film productions and acted in 1963 in A child waits by John Cassavetes in the creation of a film. In the following decades, Jones was responsible for cutting the film in more than 30 other films.
For a totally, totally crazy world (1963 ) by Stanley Kramer, he was nominated for the Academy Awards in 1964 with Frederic Knudtson and Gene Fowler Jr. for the Oscar for Best Editing, as well as for the Eddie the American Cinema Editors. Another nomination for the Academy Award for Best Editing and for the Eddie followed in 1968 for Guess Who's Coming to Dinner ( 1967) by Stanley Kramer. A third nomination for an Academy Award for best editing followed along with Pembroke J. Herring at the Academy Awards in 1977 for This land is my land ( 1976) by Hal Ashby.
Further work as a cutter made in meeting place for two pistols ( 1964) by Richard Wilson, The Ship of Fools ( 1965) by Stanley Kramer, Let me kiss your Butterfly ( 1968) by Hy Averback, Cisco Pike ( 1972) by Bill L. Norton, The last Detail (1973 ) by Hal Ashby, shampoo ( 1975) by Hal Ashby, days of Thunder (1990 ) by Tony Scott, Dinner for Six - Woodstock meets Wall Street ( 1991) by Arthur Hiller and Bulworth ( 1998) by Warren Beatty.
In 1979 he was awarded with Nancy Dowd and Waldo Salt the Oscar for best original screenplay for Coming Home - Coming Home (1977 /78) by Hal Ashby. Together with Salt he also won not only the price of the Writers Guild of America (WGA Award) for Best Original Screenplay, but this was also nominated for the Golden Globe Award for Best Screenplay. Another collaboration with Ashby was for the film Welcome Mr. Chance (1979 ), for which Jones again wrote the screenplay.
Already father was Harmon Jones had worked as an editor. And his daughter Leslie Jones is also active in this area.
