Robert Collier (author)

Robert " Bob" Collier ( born April 19, 1885 in St. Louis, Missouri, † 1950) was an American author of self-help books and motivational books in the New Thought movement.

Life

His mother died when he was still a child. His father worked as a foreign correspondent for the " Colliers Magazine " which was edited by his uncle, Peter F. Collier.

Collier attended a religious school and should become a priest. But he decided against life as a clergyman and went to West Virginia, there to seek his fortune. There he worked as a mining engineer and learned how to stay human in spite of the difficulties of life. He read the books that were in the mining office. Among them were also books such as " Applied commercial correspondence " and marketing advisors, who laid the foundations for his later career as an author.

After eight years in Virginia he moved to New York City where he worked in the advertising department of the PF Collier -Verlag. With the support of experts such as Bruce Barton and Fred Stone, he developed ideas for sales promotions and tested this in advertising circulars on important business.

The results were overwhelming. He sold several thousand copies of the Harvard Classics - a series of books by Dr. Elliot - advertising for the O. Henry stories brought him orders for over two million dollars. For The History of the World War, the publisher has received 70,000 orders.

Due to a disease he defeated using the Christian Science Church, he dealt with the issue of health. He was of the opinion that 98 percent of diseases are chemically treated and contaminated food. Because of his own experience, he wanted to find out quickly and safely seemingly non- curable diseases can be defeated as by thought alone.

He decided that it is possible - and tried to find a way. He dealt with the metaphysical, the occult and success stories. Then he began to write books on practical psychology. It emerged the books "The Secret of the Ages ", of which he sold about 300,000. He wrote four more books that he later in the book " Riches Within your Reach" summarized. The seven books in the series " The Book of Life", he compensated for a book.

Robert Collier is one of the first authors of self-help. He was regarded as a model for Napoleon Hill, Anthony Robbins or Claude M. Bristol. In the movie and book The Secret, he is quoted more often.
