Robert de Castella

Robert de Castella AO MBE ( Francois Robert " Rob" de Castella, born February 22, 1957 in Melbourne, Australia ) is a former Australian long-distance runner. He is the most successful marathon runner in his country's history.

In 1981, he presented at the Fukuoka Marathon with 2:08:18 h a world record. In 1983 he won the Rotterdam Marathon, and in the same year he was marathon world champion at the World Athletics Championships 1983 in Helsinki. The last major victory was in 1986 at the Boston Marathon in his personal best time of 2:07:51 h 1993, he finished his career.
