Robert Dienst

Robert Service (* March 1, 1928; † 13 June 2000) was an Austrian football player at the position of a striker.

He was four times Austrian scorer and holds a total of 323 Championship gates until today the player's record with most goals in the highest Austrian football league. As a national player Robert took service, among others, the football World Cup in 1954, where he reached the 3rd place with the Austrian team.

Career

Robert began his career in the service Floridsdorfer AC, for whom he scored his first hit, but moved in 1948 to the Rapid to Hütteldorf. In his first season with the Green-Whites, he was runner-up and made his debut for the Austrian national team against Hungary, where he immediately scored a goal. With Rapid Robert was serving in the aftermath dominate the championship and complete 11 seasons long no worse than second in the table and bring the title back to Hütteldorf six times. The striker had significantly as four -time top scorer share of it. Internationally, he was with the victory in Zentropapokal 1951, celebrating the successor competition of Mitropacups, successes.

With the national team, however, it went into the preparation for the Soccer World Cup 1954 in Switzerland, after Portugal in World Cup qualifier, which also met Robert Service, was handled with 9:1. Robert Service is the first game of the World Cup, the 1-0 victory over Scotland used, but must in the following games together with Walter Schleger by Austria Ernst Stojaspal and Turl Wagner make room by storm. The Austrian team reached the semi-finals, in which one, however, Germany was defeated. In the small final for third place Austria meets with Robert Service on the hitherto reigning world champions Uruguay. After the Robert Service in the penalty box set can transform Ernst Stojaspal targeted the vulnerable penalty to make it 1-0 - Austria wins 3-1 and finished the World Cup in Switzerland in third place.

Robert Service is also in the squad for the 1958 World Cup, but in Sweden it is no longer used, and also comes later to no more Team honors. In Rapid Robert can service, apart from the national title, also provide international business again furore and 1961 semi-finals of the European Cup of Champions, where the Green-Whites, however, fail to Benfica. 1962 Robert Service leaves the club and lets his career at SV Schwechat finish. Later he tried his hand as a coach and supervised by his parent club Floridsdorfer AC, Tulln, SV Stockerau and the Kremser SC, some small clubs. Even with Rapid he is as an assistant coach 1967/68 worked (double income ), as well as at the Austria Wien 1974/75.

In 2007, seven years after his death, Robert the service alley was named after him in Vienna Floridsdorf.
