Robert Dinsmore Harrison

Robert Dinsmore Harrison ( * January 26, 1897 at Panama, Lancaster County, Nebraska, † June 11, 1977 in Norfolk, Nebraska ) was an American politician. Between 1951 and 1959 he represented the third electoral district of the state of Nebraska in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Robert Harrison attended the common schools and graduated in 1926, the Peru State Teachers College. Then he studied until 1928 at the University of California and by 1934 at the University of Nebraska. Prior to his studies, he participated as a soldier in the U.S. Army in the First World War. His study period was interrupted by his work in the teaching profession. Between 1926 and 1929 he had the oversight of the schools in Bradshaw and then to 1937 in De Witt, also in Nebraska. Between 1942 and 1951 he was a member of the School Board of Norfolk. In addition to his activities in schools Robert Harrison was also the operator of a private oil company in Norfolk and a farm in Cedar County. He was also a member of the senior staff of the Governor of Nebraska, who dealt with the highways of the state.

Harrison was a member of the Republican Party. After the death of Congressman Karl Stefan 1951, he was elected at the election due in the U.S. House of Representatives. After he won the following three regular congressional elections, he could implement his mandate in Congress between December 4, 1951, to January 3, 1959. In the elections of 1958 he was defeated by Democrat Lawrence Brock.

After the end of his time in Congress, Harrison was Advisor to the Board of Commodity Credit Corporation. Between 1959 and 1960 he also worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. After that, he was from 1961 to 1962 regional director of the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation for Nebraska. In 1962, he ran unsuccessfully for a return to Congress. He then retired to Norfolk to retire back. There he died in 1977.
