A man looking for a woman is a French film directed by Claude Lelouch in the year 1978.

Action

The Jewish taxi driver with Egyptian roots Robert Goldman (48) and the former restaurant employees and now aspiring police officer Robert Villiers ( 27) have two things in common: they both still live with their mother and are single, so they at marriage brokering Institute of Jacques Millet woman for hope to find life. While Villiers is very shy and almost despondent, Goldman has very high standards for his future wife. Both men meet at the Institute of Millet and arrive at home this week, albeit hesitantly. Both want to meet her for the first time proposed by the Institut woman on a big ball at the weekend, but they are at the end the only ones which do not appear selected partners. Villiers takes with Goldman to his home, where both drink on the bad evening coffee. Villiers mother is irritated, but her son had spoken of his proposed by the Institute girlfriend as are both long since a couple. They now believed that their son is having an affair with a man. The two different men make friends with the time and the usually introverted Villiers even manages at once to pass his driving test. He goes into Goldman's business and is a taxi driver. Both men on first name terms now, and even go together in a private club, but turns out to be too revealing for both.

Villiers and Goldman continue to hope to find in the Institute of Jacques Millet their woman for life. They therefore assume a multi-day trip bachelors Millets in part, must sit with men in addition to women and will be allocated at the end of the matching partner of Millet. Although both men give their wives a chance, but flees Goldman at the end in front of his, while the beautiful but sad Patricia does not want to stay with Villiers. In the end, only one of the terraces of luck: The Egyptian Ali Salem proclaimed to all other single person on the bus that he will marry the chosen for him Arlette Poirier. All participants of the bus trip are invited to the wedding. At the ceremony everyone must contribute something to the conversation. Goldman tells bad jokes two, while it is possible Villiers to come out and perform a small skit about Jacques Millet and his dealings with the customer of his institute. The wedding guests are thrilled and Goldman has a vision: As Villiers as a comedian makes a breakthrough and fills largest halls in a very short time; how he met a well-known television presenter and marries and how he, Goldman, as Villiers ' manager at the end of Villiers ' mother, a relationship begins. Goldman is impressed by his vision so that he spontaneously asks Mrs Villiers dancing. Patricia in turn could laugh at Villiers ' talk and now has no objection to dance with him.

Production

A man looking for a woman was shot, among others in Paris. The costumes created Adrienne Bacou and Colette Baudot, the Filmbauten come from Eric Moulard. The film was released on 14 June 1978 in the French cinema and was seen by 1,020,933 viewers. He was also in the West German cinemas on November 23, 1979. In July 2005, the film was released under the Claude Lelouch Edition on DVD.

Criticism

The filmdienst called One Man seeking a woman a " staged comedy routine, not very imaginative, but complacent and acting above average. "

Jacques Villeret won in 1979 for his role as Robert Villiers a César Award for Best Supporting Actor.
