Robert Foster (author)

Robert Foster ( born 1949 in Brooklyn, New York) is an American professor of English and writer.

Life

Robert Foster was born in Brooklyn, New York. He studied at the University of Pennsylvania ( Penn ) in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the subjects English and Medieval customer. Dr. Foster worked as an assistant professor of English at Rutgers College in New Brunswick, New Jersey. A wider audience, he was known for his Middle-earth lexicon that explains the terms related to the stories of English fantasy author J. R. R. Tolkien, related to his world of Middle Earth. He was a consultant of the Tolkien Society of America. The creation of the lexicon was a consequence of its local employment to the etymology of the names in the books of Tolkien.

Work

The large Middle-Earth Encyclopedia provides an overview of the names of the locations, people and terms that have been published in the books of The Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit and The Silmarillion mythology of Middle-earth. In addition, there are detailed background information and explanations of words to key areas, and Annexes A with the timings, eras and calendars in Tolkien's world or the Appendix B with detailed pedigrees and Annex C with a Tengwar table.
