Robert Glasgow

Robert Ellison Glasgow ( * May 30, 1925 in Oklahoma City, † 10 September, 2008 Ann Arbor ) was an American organist and music teacher.

Glasgow studied at the Eastman School of Music with Harold Gleason and Catherine Crozier and got there in 1950 or 1951 Bachelor 's and Master's degrees as well as certificate as a concert organist. From 1951 to 1962 he served as associate professor and organist at MacMurray College in Jacksonville, Illinois. He then taught at the University of Michigan, where he was promoted to full professor from 1973 until his retirement in 2006. The MacMurray College awarded him an honorary doctorate in 1973. 1997 awarded him the American Guild of Organists as International Performer of the Year. For his performance as a music teacher, he received the Harold Haugh Award from the University of Michigan.

Part of his repertoire as a concert organist were works of composers of the 19th century, such as Franz Liszt, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy, Robert Schumann, Charles -Marie Widor, Louis Vierne, and especially César Franck. In a review, it was called "the Philadelphia Orchestra of Organists ." In addition to radio recordings he played for Prestant Records in 1987 at the Æolian - Skinner organ of All Saints Church in Worcester, Massachusetts, works of César Franck one.
