Robert Guillaume

Robert Guillaume ( born November 30, 1927 in St. Louis, Missouri; bourgeois Robert Peter Williams ) is an American actor. He became famous for his role as Benson Du Bois on the TV - series Soap - Home Sweet Home and its spin-off Benson.

Life

Guillaume studied before his acting career at Saint Louis University and Washington University. Thereafter, he served in the United States Army. His debut on Broadway, he had 1961 in Kwamina. Followed by appearances in Golden Boy, Tambourines to Glory, Guys and Dolls, Jacques Brel is Alive and Well and Living in Paris and Purlie. For his role Guys and Dolls, he was nominated for a Tony Award.

After a few guest appearances in various sitcoms like Good Times and The Jeffersons in 1977 he got his first recurring role on the series Soap radio station ABC. He played the same role in the spin-off Benson. For his performances in the two series he won an Emmy Award, respectively. More of his series roles were Edward Sawyer in The Robert Guillaume Show ( 1989) Bob Ballard in Pacific Station (1991) and Isaac Jaffe in Sports Night ( 1998-2000). In addition to his appearances on television, he also played various roles in movies such as The Meteor Man. In addition, he speaks in the English version of The Lion King and its spin-offs, the mandrill Rafiki as well as in the English version of the game Half-Life 2 the scientist Eli Vance.

On 14 January 1999 he suffered a mild stroke, from which he fully recovered.
