Robert Hall (minister)

Robert Hall ( born March 2, 1764 in Arnesby in Leicester, † February 21, 1831 in Bristol ) was an English theologian and pulpit orator of the Dissenters ( dissenters, nonconformists earlier ).

Robert Hall studied in Aberdeen, was then preacher in Bristol and 1790 in Cambridge, where he continued his controversial writing Christianity consistent with a love of freedom wrote against the carrier by the outbreak of the French Revolution suspicion of all freedom as godlessness 1791 he 1793 Apology for the freedom of the press was to follow.

Characterized by depth of thought and brilliant account are his ' Reflections on war " (1802 ) and the sentiments proper to the present crisis (1803 ). Attacked in November 1804 by a mood disorder, he could again take over a ministry to Leicester at a Baptist church after years.

In 1826 he was appointed to Bristol, where he died on February 21, 1831.

His printed writings have been collected by Gregory with a biography of the author ( new edition, London, 1846, 6 vols ).
