Robert Haskell

Robert N. Haskell ( born August 24, 1903 in Bangor, Penobscot County, Maine; † 3 December 1987 ) was an American politician and governor of Maine in January 1959.

Early years and political rise

After primary school, Haskell studied at the University of Maine to 1925, the engineering. After that he made in a company 's hydroelectric ran a career that took him to the post of chief executives by the year 1958. Already since 1945, Haskell was politically active. Between 1945 and 1947 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Maine. He was then elected for five terms in the Senate this federal state. There he was at times even its president. He was a member of the Republican Party.

Governor of Maine and other CV

Following the resignation of Governor Edmund S. Muskie on January 2, 1959 Haskell had to end his tenure as President of the Senate in accordance with the Constitution. In this case it was just once for five days until the 7th of January 1959. On this day, then the newly elected Governor Clinton Clauson was inaugurated. After that Haskell withdrew from politics. But he remained director and Board of his company and he was curator of the University of Maine. He was also on the board of Bangor Merchants National Bank. Robert Haskell died in December 1987.
