Robert Herrick (poet)

Robert Herrick ( born August 1591 in London, buried October 15, 1674 in Dean Prior, Devon ) was an English poet.

Herrick visited in 1613, the University of Cambridge. 1629 Herrick Vicar of Dean Prior in Devonshire. A post he retained with a break until his death. He has written over 1,200 short poems, mostly influenced religious, or from the English countryside and reporting of village customs. One of his most famous poems is To the Virgins, To Make Much of Time. This poem plays a key role in the film The Dead Poets Society, introducing the film motto of "Carpe diem".
