Robert Humphreys

Robert Humphreys ( born August 20, 1893 in Fulgham, Hickman County, Kentucky, † December 31, 1977 in Frankfort, Kentucky ) was an American politician (Democratic Party), who represented the state of Kentucky in the U.S. Senate.

Life

After schooling Humphreys studied at the University of Wisconsin before he fought in the First World War in Europe, and in 1919 retired as First Sergeant of the Army. He then worked as a pharmacist in Mayfield and later in Frankfort.

1920 Robert Humphreys was elected to the House of Representatives from Kentucky, where he remained for a year. From 1932 to 1936 he sat in the state Senate, where he served in 1934 as president pro tempore. From 1936 he served as Highway Commissioner Member of the State Government of Kentucky; this office he held until 1940, also in the Second World War he served in the army. Between 1943 and 1945 he was a captain in the medical corps.

From 1955 to 1956 Humphreys was again Highway Commissioner of Kentucky, before he accepted the appointment as U.S. Senator. In Washington, he joined the successor of the former U.S. vice president albums W. Barkley, who passed away on April 30, 1956. Robert Humphreys belonged to the Senate from June 21 to November 6, 1956, and applied not to seek re-election. He returned to Kentucky and was re- worked as a pharmacist.
