Robert II, Count of Dreux

Robert II the Younger ( * 1154, † December 28, 1218 ) was from 1188, Count of Dreux and Braine.

Life

He was the son of Count Robert I. and Agnes of Baudemont, Countess of Braine, and thus a member of the house of France Dreux.

Shortly after the death of his father, after he had begun his heir, Robert broke up with an advance party to the Third Crusade ( 1189-1192 ). He has participated mainly in the siege of Acre (1189-1191) and the Battle of Arsuf ( 1191 ) here. After his return to France he fought against the British ( 1195-1198 ). In 1210, he was commander of the Albigensian Crusade and participated in the siege of Termes ( August-November 1210). He supported his brother Philip of Dreux, Bishop of Beauvais, in his fight against Rainald I of Dammartin, Count of Boulogne. At the battle of Bouvines ( 1214 ) he commanded the left wing of the army of the French king Philip II Augustus.

Marriage and issue

Robert II of Dreux married his first wife in 1178 Mathilde of Burgundy ( * 1150, † 1192 ), daughter of Raymond of Burgundy, Count of Grignon, and Agnes de Montpensier, before he broke up in 1181; The marriage remained childless. His second wife he married in 1184 Yolande of Coucy (* 1164, † 1222 ), daughter of Raoul I of Coucy Boves out of the house and Agnes of Hainaut. Their children are:
