Robert III, Count of Dreux

. Robert III, called Gasteblé (which means as much as wheat thief ), ( * 1185, † March 3, 1234 in Braine ) was a Count of Dreux and Braine. He was the eldest son of Count Robert II of Dreux and his second wife Yolande of Coucy. His younger brother was Peter Mauclerc, who was Duke of Brittany in 1213.

The chronicler Guillaume le Breton reported in its La Philippide that Robert had destroyed a field of wheat in his youth during a hunt, what 's more unusual epithet explained.

Life

Robert was fought on May 17, 1209 together with the Prince Ludwig ( VIII ) in Compiègne by King Philip II of France knighted. After that he fought for the king against the Plantagenet John Lackland and assisted his brother, Peter Mauclerc, 1213 at the seizure of power in Brittany.
