Robert J. Bentley

Robert Julian Bentley ( born February 3, 1943 in Columbiana, Alabama ) is an American politician and physician. Since 17 January 2011, he is the Governor of the State of Alabama.

Life

Bentley studied for his schooling at the University of Alabama chemistry and biology. Then he began to study medicine at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. After his studies he began at the end of U.S. military from 1969 to work until 1975. Then he opened his own practice in Tuscaloosa.

Bentley is a member of the Republican Party. In 2002 he moved as a Member of Parliament in the House of Representatives from Alabama. On 2 November 2010 he won the election for governor in Alabama. In his election campaign, he had promised a strict immigration legislation, among other things. On 17 January 2011, he followed Bob Riley in office. In his inaugural speech, he said that people who did not believe in Jesus Christ, he could not close that they, as Christians. The statement provoked considerable criticism and protests.

On 9 June 2011 he wrote " HB 56 ", which, by its own account, " toughest immigration law of the United States ". This is the extend legal for the police to investigate specified persons by suspected residence papers and various civilian groups such as schools, landlords and employers are obliged to report illegal immigrants.
