Robert J. Reynolds

Robert John Reynolds ( born March 17, 1838 in Smyrna, Delaware, † June 10, 1909 in Kent County, Delaware ) was an American politician and 1891-1895 Governor of the State of Delaware.

Early years and political rise

Little is known about Robert Reynolds ' school. In 1861 he settled on an estate called " Golden Ridge " at Petersburg down. , Where he worked as a farmer and horticulture. Policy was Reynolds member of the Democratic Party. Between 1869 and 1871 he was for a term of deputy in the House of Representatives from Delaware. between 1879 and 1881 he was Finance Minister of his state. November 4, 1890, he was elected as a candidate of his party with 51% of the vote, narrowly beating the later U.S. Senator Harry Alden Richardson as the new governor.

Governor of Delaware

Robert Reynolds began his four -year term on 20 January 1891. During this time the state constitution was reformed and the border with the neighboring state of Pennsylvania was re-measured. In education, free textbooks were at this time the students first made available.

Further CV

After the end of his tenure, Reynolds withdrew from politics. He went back to his agricultural interests and died on 10 June 1909. He was married twice and had a son.
