Robert Kipkoech Cheruiyot

Robert Cheruiyot Kipkoech (since the end of 2008: Omar Ahmed, born 26 September 1978) is a Kenyan long- distance runner who specializes in the marathon distance.

He won the 2002 Milan City Marathon and 2003 Boston Marathon. In 2005 he finished the Boston Marathon and the fifth at the New York City Marathon in fourth place.

In 2006 he was able to not only win once again in Boston with the course record of 2:07:14 h (simultaneously personal best ), he also won the Chicago Marathon in a dramatic way, as he slipped immediately before the target and passing below the target band over the measuring mat slid.

In 2007 he repeated his victory in Boston in storm -like conditions in 2:14:13 h through a fourth place at the Chicago Marathon, he secured the victory early in the series in 2006/ 07 World Marathon Majors.

In 2008, he was the Boston Marathon to decide for themselves again. He is thus the first male athlete since Bill Rodgers, who can claim four wins during this run. He was nominated for the marathon in the Olympic Games in Beijing, but refrained due to an injury in the short term in favor of Luke Kibet.

2009 ended his winning streak in Boston when he gave up because of back pain. In a marathon of the World Championships in Berlin, he was fifth in 2:10:47 h and thus secured the Kenyan team the gold in the team competition. To end of the season, he finished second in New York City. In 2010 he won the Granollers Half Marathon, 2011, he was seventh at the Shanghai Marathon.

Cheruiyot is unusually large for a long-distance runner with 1.88 m and weighs for only 65 kg. He is married and has one daughter. In 2008, he converted to Islam and took the name Omar Ahmed.
