Robert Kranjec

Robert Kranjec (born 16 July 1981 in Ljubljana) is a Slovenian ski jumper. He is a trained hairdresser and worked for the local police in Kranj. He starts for the club SK Triglav.

Career

The first success in the world rankings could reach the bronze medal in the team competition at Robert Kranjec the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City. It was followed by several years with placements in midfield. His first World Cup victory, he sat at the beginning of the 2005/2006 season in Kuusamo. As this was the World Cup opening event, he was briefly the yellow jersey of World Cup leader. There followed a little further successful years in which he could usually reach forward positions only in ski flying. In the Slovenian ski jumping championships in 2009 Kranjec won the championship of the large hill. On 9 January 2010, he could retract his second victory at the ski flying in Tauplitz after he experienced a surprisingly prevail against Simon Ammann. In the ski flying competition on the following day he reached the second place. In Oberstdorf, he was on 31 January, again in ski flying, again reached the second place, which he was able to secure the overall victory in the World Cup discipline for the ski flying. At the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in 2010 he reached the normal hill the 6th Place and on the large hill the 9th Place.

The Slovenian Championships 2010 in Kranj Kranjec again won both titles in singles and team. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 2011 in Oslo, he started for Slovenia in all four jump competitions. From the normal hill he reached in individual 32nd place and with the team in sixth place. From the large hill he reached the 23th place in the individual competition. In the team competition, he won the bronze medal together with Jurij Tepeš, Jernej Damjan and Peter Prevc. Then this Slovenian team was Athlete of the Year chosen in the election in their homeland Team of the Year. On 19 February 2012, he won with the Slovenian team the team competition at the Heini Klopfer ski jump. The Slovenian team for the first time won so ever a team in the World Cup competition.

Robert Kranjec is considered one of the best ski jumpers in the scene. On the ski jump in Planica in 1999 he had a very bad fall, in which he was seriously injured by a take-off error. His biggest success in flying, he celebrated the victory in the individual at the Ski Flying World Championships 2012 in Vikersund, where he set up his new personal best of 244 meters. In the team competition, he won the bronze medal with the Slovenian team behind Austria and Germany. On March 16, 2012, he won a ski jumping on the Letalnica Bratov Gorišek in Planica the first Slovene.

Despite the success at the international level Kranjec only reached eighth place in the individual competition at the Slovenian ski jumping championships 2013.
