Robert M. A. Hawk

Robert Moffett Allison Hawk ( * April 23, 1839 in Rushville, Hancock County, Indiana, † June 29 1882 in Washington DC ) was an American politician. Between 1879 and 1882 he represented the state of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Back in 1844, Robert Hawk with his parents in the Carroll County in Illinois. He attended the common schools and the Eureka College. He also studied law, but without ever working as a lawyer. During the Civil War he served in the army of the Union, in which he rose to the brevet Major. In 1865, he moved to Mount Carroll, where he worked in agriculture. He also was employed 1865-1879 at the local District Court as Clerk.

Politically, Hawak joined the Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1878 he was elected the fifth electoral district of Illinois in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington, where he became the successor of Horatio C. Burchard on March 4, 1879. After a re-election, he could remain until his death on June 29, 1882 in Congress. Then, his mandate was made after a special election to his party colleague Robert R. Hitt.
