Robert Maras

Robert Maras ( born October 20, 1978 in Freiburg im Breisgau ) is a German former professional basketball player and current basketball coach at TSV Oberhaching Deisenhofen.

Life and career

Club career

Robert Maras was born to Croatian parents in Freiburg and grew up there as well. His basketball career began in 1996 with the Bundesliga second division USC Freiburg. In 1998, Mara with a double license to Bundesliga top club ALBA Berlin and its cooperation partner for youth work TuS Lichterfelde. With the TuS Lichterfelde he made in 2000 as a leading player in the rise of the first basketball league.

For the 2000/2001 season he moved to the OPEL Skyliners Frankfurt and is fast becoming the top performers of the team. In December 2003, its development was temporarily thrown back, as he incurred a torn ACL and was able to follow the German Championship title winning his teams only from the bank. In 2002, he creates it in Summer League team the Dallas Mavericks, but not the leap to the NBA.

In early 2005 he changed while he was still running season 2004 /2005 on the Spanish side Caja San Fernando Sevilla. In the stronger Spanish League, he promised greater opportunities. For the following season, he joined the Spanish Llanera Menorca Menorca and after 6 games for his trip was in November 2005 further to the second division Palma Aqua Magica.

For the 2006/2007 season Maras joined the Giessen 46ers in the National Basketball League. As of 2007 stood Maras to the Greek first division Egaleo under contract. In March 2008, he moved even during the current season 2007/2008 to the Spanish second division club Unión Baloncesto LA PALMA, before he returned again in the summer of 2008, after casting, and there signed a contract for two years. After one year, the contract was terminated. For the 2009/10 season Maras changes where he signed a two -year contract at Bayern Munich. For the season 2011/2012 Robert Maras received a new contract in Munich.

July 2011 was the third division Munich Basket obligation Maras known. Mara wanted to be there end his career and in parallel entry into professional life. The end of November, 2011, the club announced that Mara must end finally his athletic career because of knee problems. Mara played four league games for the third division.

The 2.15 m wide Mara played the center position.

By mid-2013 was Mara's coach of the second male team and the U18 MTSV of Schwabing. He then moved to the coach position of the third division TSV Oberhaching Deisenhofen.

National

In the Summer Universiade in 2001 in Beijing, he met for the first time with the German national team and A2- occupied at the end of a very good fourth place. Maras convinced and was consequently at the 2002 World Championships in Indianapolis in the German senior national squad. In only 35 minutes of playing time, he had 24 points. Also at the European Championships in Sweden in 2003, he was on the national team.

At the 2005 European Championships he won with the German team the silver medal. At the Basketball World Championship 2006, he was not appointed to the team of head coach Dirk Bauer man.
