Robert McCall (figure skater)

Robert McCall, OC ( born September 14, 1958 in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, † November 15, 1991 in Ottawa, Ontario) was a Canadian figure skater, who started ice dancing.

His first Eistanzparterin was Marie McNeil. The ice dance ended his two World Cup appearances in 1980 and 1981 respectively on the 13th, 1981, McNeill and McCall Canadian Eistanzmeister.

From 1982, McCall was on the side of Tracy Wilson. From 1982 until her career in late 1988 they were Canadian champion in ice dancing and participated in this period participated in all World Championships. At the World Championships in 1986 in Geneva, 1987 in Cincinnati, and in 1988 in Budapest they each won the bronze medal behind the two Soviet Eistanzpaaren Bestemjanowa Natalia and Andrei Bukin and Marina Klimova and Sergei Ponomarenko. Bronze won Wilson and McCall in this order also at the 1988 Olympics in Calgary. In her first Olympics in Sarajevo in 1984 they had become eighth.

After the 1988 Olympics Tracy Wilson and Robert McCall finished their amateur career and switched to the professionals. In 1989 she won the World Cup in the pros. She also ran for the ice show Stars On Ice.

In March 1990, McCall became ill while he was with Brian Boitano and Katarina Witt on tour, hard of pneumonia. The doctors diagnosed AIDS from him. McCall hid this in the hope to be able to continue professional figure skating in the United States. His health deteriorated, however, and he died on 15 November 1991 with 33 years of loss caused by AIDS brain cancer. 1999 outed Scott Hamilton in his autobiography Landing It: My Life On And Off The Ice McCall as homosexual.
