Robert McCloskey

Robert McCloskey ( born September 15, 1914 in Hamilton ( Ohio), † 30 June 2003) was an American author and illustrator of children's books.

Life

McCloskey is best known for his portraits of New England. He wrote and illustrated eight books. The most famous among them is Make Way for Ducklings, published in 1941 and in 1942 was awarded the Caldecott Medal.

Make Way for Ducklings tells the tale of a family of mallard ducks who live on a pond in a park in Boston. The story is well known to this day in Boston and is considered part of local heritage. In 2003, the story has been appointed as the official children's book of Massachusetts. 1987 created the sculptor Nancy bronze statue of Mrs. Mallard and her chicks, which is at the Public Garden in Boston today. The park also hosts the annual Make Way for Ducklings parade which will be held on Mother's Day and attend the hundreds of children in duck costumes.
