Robert N. Martin

Robert Nicols Martin ( born January 14, 1798 in Cambridge, Dorchester County, Maryland, † July 20, 1870 in Saratoga Springs, New York ) was an American politician. Between 1825 and 1827 he represented the state of Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Robert Martin attended the public schools of his home. After a subsequent study of law and qualifying as a lawyer, he worked 1819-1827 in this profession. At the same time he became involved in politics. In the 1820s he was a supporter of President John Quincy Adams. He was a member of the short-lived National Republican Party. In the congressional elections of 1824, Martin was in the eighth electoral district of Maryland in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John S. Spence on March 4, 1825. Until March 3, 1827 he was able to complete a term in Congress.

After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives Martin practiced in Baltimore as a lawyer. From 1845 to 1851 he was Chief Judge of the Western District Court of Maryland. He then continued his lawyer in Baltimore. From 1859 to 1867 he was judge of the Superior Court of Baltimore. Then he taught until his death in international law at the University of Maryland. Robin Martin died on July 20, 1870 in Saratoga Springs and was buried in Cambridge.
