Robert Normandeau

Robert Normandeau ( born March 11, 1955 in Quebec ) is a Canadian composer of electroacoustic and acousmatic music.

Career

After completing his bachelor's degree in 1984 in Composition of Electroacoustic Music at the University of Laval in Quebec City Robert Normandeau moved to Montreal and completed a Masters in Composition (1988) and received the 1992 first PhD in Electroacoustic Composition at Marcelle Deschênes and Francis Dhomont. From 1986 to 1993 he was an active member of the Association pour la création et la recherche du Québec électroacoustiques ( ACREQ ), where he founded the concert series Clair de terre at the Planetarium of Montreal. In 1991 he was co-founder of Réseaux, an organization for the presentation of media art, especially for the acousmatic concert series Rien à voir and Akousma. He is a founding member of the Canadian Association for Electroacoustic Music (CEC, 1987).

After a certain interest in instrumental and live - electronic works, his current efforts are focused on acousmatic music. This means concretely that his compositions are aesthetic criteria by which he creates a " cinema for the ears " in which " sense and sound " the decisive elements form that represent his work. Along with these works, he works to the stage with music, especially for the theater.

Robert Normandeau is since 1999 professor of electroacoustic composition at the University of Montreal.

Awards

For his recording Figures 1999 he received the award Prix Opus from the Conseil québécois de la musique ( CQM) and indeed in the category " Composer of the Year " and in the section " Record of the Year for contemporary music ". The Académie québécoise du théâtre ( AQT ) gave him twice the Masque Award in the category "Best Theatre Music " in 2002 for the piece Malina, and in 2005 for the play La Cloche de verre.
